Concerns about a Child Care Service
If you have a concern, it is important that you speak with your child's carer/s, or to the person in charge at your centre or scheme, as soon as possible. All child care services are required to have a process to deal with complaints and many complaints can be quickly resolved directly with the service.
The Tasmanian State Government promotes the provision of high quality child care through the application of a licensing system which requires all centre-based care and home-based care providers to meet specified licensing/registration standards. This includes Outside School Hours Care services for children aged 5-12 years.
The Child Care Unit is responsible for managing complaints concerning a service's non-compliance with the Child Care Act 2001 or Standards. If you have any concerns about non-compliance, and these have not been able to be resolved through following the service's complaints mechanism, you can contact the Child Care Unit on 03 6233 5676, or 1300 135 513 (cost of local call), via email, or by using the forms below.

Acknowledgement that complaint investigations may unintentionally lead to the identification of the complainant [Word 160KB]
CCU staff will always investigate if it is alleged:
- a child's health, safety or wellbeing has been compromised,
- there has been a contravention of the Child Care Act 2001 and/or the Licensing Standards.
Where a complaint is received about a child care service that requires invesitigations by the CCU, all efforts are made to ensure that the confidentiality of the complainant is maintained, including the release of the complainant's name or other personal information.
Concerns about Quality Assurance issues
The National Childcare Accreditation Council is responsible for the implementation and administration of a quality assurance system for Australian children's services.
