Child care services provide care and developmentally appropriate programs for children up to 13 years of age. Access to child care is vital for many parents, particularly those in the workforce and those whose working hours don't match the hours their children attend school, or activities such as study, and participation in community activities etc.
Children attending child care services have opportunities to learn through social interactions in a stimulating and varied environment. Early childhood programs provide educational experiences that assist children to develop their knowledge, skills and attitudes that will strengthen and extend all areas of their development for life long learning.
A strong, stable child care service provides families with continuity of care, important for both the children and parents.
The importance of the children's services industry to the Tasmanian community and economy is recognised by the Government. It is committed to working in partnership with local government, 'not for profit' community-based organisations and 'for profit' private and corporate agencies to support the development of well planned, responsive and high quality services for Tasmanian children and families.
