Child Care Unit's Strategic Plan

This strategic plan will be reviewed annually and updated.
Updated March 2009


Vision Statement

The Child Care Unit is an integral support to the provision of quality child care in Tasmania.

Purpose

The Child Care Unit's staff will work collaboratively and effectively with the child care community by:

  • licensing and supporting child care services defined within the Child Care Act 2001;
  • responding to concerns regarding the provision of child care as defined under the Act;
  • developing and reviewing Standards in consultation with the child care sector;
  • resourcing services including provision of advice and training relevant to the Child Care Unit's function;
  • providing funds through specific programs;
  • liaising with government, providers, parents and the community on child care matters;
  • contributing to the development of licensing best practice at a national level; and


Goal and Sub-goals

1. Effectively support the delivery of quality child care
1.1 Support services? compliance with licensing requirements;
1.2 Provide ongoing support to child care services;
1.3 Work collaboratively and effectively with the child care community; and
1.4 Contribute to the development of licensing best practice.
2. Promote quality child care
2.1 Increase community awareness of quality child care
3. Foster a skilled and professional work environment within the Child Care Unit
3.1 Support the skills development and professionalism of staff;
3.2 Work supportively, collaboratively and effectively within the CCU; and
3.3 Promote the professional acceptance of the CCU.

Strategic Initiatives for 2009

  • Complete the review of the CBC1 Licensing Standards and commence implementation.
  • Complete Stage 3 OSHC Licensing Standards and commence implementation.
  • In conjunction with MCCAC and the Tasmanian Polytechnic, provide support to the Recognition Project.
  • Trial and then review the GSAT (Glazing Self Assessment Tool) for OSHC with 4 year olds.
  • Trial and then review new processes for OSHC services which have/wish to have approval for 4 year olds.
  • Respond as required to COAG initiatives particularly those related to quality, workforce and data.

Other: complete the redevelopment of stage 1 of the CCU Database; complete the development
of a Licensing Officer Handbook.
